Adding the online SnapitHD Cam player to your Facebook page

I spent a good deal of last week working out how to add the webcam player 'Encounter' so it can be viewed live inside a Facebook page.
Check out this example: NB - will only be visible if you have a Facebook account.
Tauranga Webcam on Facebook

It cannot be used directly onto your Facebook profile. But it can be used in your product or fan page and I think group page as well.

How do you add a page to your facebook fan page/product/business page or group?
The main thing you need to know is where the application page is.
I will list these below and add more as they become available. If one is missing please comment or email and I will add it for you.
Nelson Webcam Facebook Application Page
Mt Cook Webcam Facebook Application Page
Fox Glacier Webcam Facebook Application Page
Franz Josef Webcam Facebook Application Page
Gisborne Webcam Facebook Application Page
Greymouth Webcam Facebook Application Page
Hanmer Springs 1 Webcam Facebook Application Page
Hanmer Springs 2 Webcam Facebook Application Page
Hokitika Webcam Facebook Application Page
Kaiteriteri Webcam Facebook Application Page
Moutere 1 Webcam Facebook Application Page
Moutere 2 Webcam Facebook Application Page
Paihia Webcam Facebook Application Page
Pukenui Webcam Facebook Application Page
Punakaiki Webcam Facebook Application Page
Queenstown Webcam Facebook Application Page
Richmond 1 Webcam Facebook Application Page
Richmond 2 Webcam Facebook Application Page
Tauranga Webcam Facebook Application Page
Wilsons Abel Tasman Vista Webcam Facebook Application Page

Lots more to come ...

Once you are at the Application page of the SnapitHD Cam you wish to add then click the "Add to my page" link in the left hand column - shown in the image below:

This will open a box that allows you to add the application to one of your pages by clicking the "Add to page" button.

Once this is done you will have a new page in your fan/group/business page which includes the webcam.

All done! - If you have any problems let me know either email or comment.

Encounter – online SnapitHD Cam player

We have christened our new online player 'encounter'.
This software has been 3 years in development and was dreamed up while walking on Tahuna beach in Nelson.

'Encounter' allows you to view the shots from a SnapitHD Cam through-out the day by moving your mouse across the screen.
If you move your mouse to the far left it shows the first shot captured that day and on the far right it shows the latest live shot. It is one of those things that is hard to explain and is better to just give it a go.

For promotion/tourism:
Below is an example of a webcam shooting Auckland Harbour..

Click the play button which will take you to full screen and allow you to experience the player.

This player is also live on www.metservice.com for most of our camera locations in NZ - New Zealand's meteorological department website.

We have run extensive browser compatibility testing, so it should work on all platforms. If you have trouble clear your cache and try again. If you still have trouble then let me know by email or commenting on this post.

New features coming soon:

  • Decreasing the size - making it much quicker.
  • The user can display shots from other days/weeks/months/years.
  • Navigate to other SnapitHD Cam's that are close by.
  • Download or email shots for use as desktop backgrounds in Windows or (better still) Linux..
  • Being able to share/like and tweet on Facebook or Twitter or other social media.

For construction:
This is a recent addition and allows the user to view the whole construction job - which may be over a period of 2 or 3 years.
When the mouse is moved to the far left it shows the first shot taken - this example is a Tasman Council job that shows the construction of a drainage system.
When the mouse is moved to the far right it shows the latest live shot.
Below is an example..

If you would like to add this player on your website for any of our cameras let me know - either comment or email.

Top secret ... the next player version due will be called 'Encounter 360' which gives you a hint as to one of the new 'secret' features available in the Gen5 SnapitHD Cam.

In the beginning…

This is the space where all news and information will go while we are making and improving the SnapitHD Cam and SnapitHD line of products.

We would also like to hear suggestions, improvements or features that you would like to see incorporated into the new Gen5-Caleb SnapitHD Cam. Please let us know what you think by commenting on this post or emailing.

Initially this blog will not be promoted heavily and only people connected with SnapitHD will view posts. We will open it up later as the camera gets closer to release and feature details become less commercially sensitive.

The SnapitHD mission/vision statement is simply:

To capture and distribute the highest quality images of the world to the world.
